Our seasoned Executive Director and board-certified Medical Directors lead an expert interdisciplinary team of advanced practice professionals, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and aides who specialize in caring for people facing a serious illness or life-limiting condition. Our team is actively involved in each patient’s plan of care in order to achieve the best outcome.

Mary Kay Walters, MSW
Title: Executive Director

Mary Kay first joined the Bristol Hospice ~ Sacramento team in 2013 as Clinical Admission Specialist. She quickly became the Assistant Executive Director, and was appointed as Executive Director in 2016.

Mary Kay brings over two decades of experience in providing hospice care to patients and families. She graduated from the University of Maryland School of Social Work with a dual masters in clinical/community organization and resource development.

Mary Kay was born in Hays, Kansas and has had the good fortune to travel and live abroad. Now, she is pleased to call the Sacramento area home. A mother of two daughters, her hobbies include raising chickens, gardening, sewing, reading, traveling, playing tennis, golfing and watching all kinds of sports.

Dr. Gregory Smith
Title: Medical Director

Dr. Smith has over 37 years of clinical experience. He is board certified in Internal medicine and board eligible in geriatrics and hospice. He has worked extensively in primary care, specialty care and consultation, and hospitalist medicine in the greater Sacramento Metropolitan area, Stockton and Grass Valley. Dr. Smith is married and has 5 children. He has attended the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of California at Davis. He enjoys golf, bowling, biking and white water rafting.

Dr. Mark Blum
Title: Associate Medical Director

Dr. Mark Blum is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA, 1969) and Georgetown University (MD, 1974). He completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine at University of California, Davis (1977). Dr. Blum was employed by The Permanente Medical Group (TPMG) from 1977-2008 as a member of the Department of Medicine. While there he was instrumental in the startup of both the Hospice and Palliative Medicine programs at Kaiser Sacramento. Following retirement from TPMG, Dr. Blum accepted the position of Medical Director at Bristol Hospice ~ Sacramento in 2008.

Dr. Blum is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Blum also holds the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of California, Davis where he teaches in the areas of Palliative Care, Bioethics, and doctoring skills.

Dr. Pat Hardy
Title: Associate Medical Director

Dr. Pat Hardy joined the Bristol Hospice ~ Sacramento team in 2008 and is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at UC Davis Medical Center, Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and an Expert Reviewer, Pediatric Hematology-Oncology for the State of California Medical Board.

Prior to joining Bristol Hospice ~ Sacramento, Dr. Hardy served as Associate Physician for Northern California Children’s Hematology & Oncology Medial Group, Sutter Memorial Hospital and Senior Physician for Northern California Permanente Medical Group. He has also served in numerous leadership and attending faculty positions throughout his career. Dr. Hardy was a visiting lecturer at the University Medical Center, Harare, Zimbabwe and University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam for Rotary International.

Dr. Hardy completed his internship, residency and fellowship training at the University of Minnesota after earning a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University at Long Beach after proudly serving in the U.S. Army.

Dr. Kevin Keck
Title: Associate Medical Director

Dr. Keck joined the Bristol Hospice team in May 2015, has over 40 years of clinical experience and is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatric Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Prior to joining Bristol Hospice, he has been affiliated with Kaiser Permanente, Providence Health and Services, and at clinics in Tracy and Stockton, California. Dr. Keck has worked as an emergency department physician and as a primary care physician. He is married and has three grown children.

Dr. Rajneet Sekhon
Title: Associate Medical Director

Dr. Ranjeet Sekhon joined Bristol Hospice 2 years ago after obtaining experience in geriatrics and post-acute care/skilled nursing facility work. This inspired her to join hospice and provide end-of-life care. Ranjeet is board certified in family medicine, having graduated from the University of Virginia Family Medicine Program in 2010. She is currently pursuing an HMDCP and a CMD. She is a member of several professional societies including AMDA, CALTCM, and AAHPM. Dr. Sekhon is married to her husband of 10 years, who is an adult and child psychiatrist. They have 2 children, ages 5 and 7 years. She enjoys time with family, reading, listening to music, dancing, cooking, swimming and traveling.

Dr. Robert "Bob" Vizzard
Title: Associate Medical Director

Dr. Vizzard joined the Bristol Hospice team in September 2015 and has practiced medicine for over 40 years. He is a board-certified emergency medicine physician for thirty seven years.

A California native, Dr. Vizzard has lived and practiced in Sacramento and Central California all of his life.
